The following words and phrases are often used in the past perfect in Brazilian Portuguese as a way to express wishes or opinions about events.


Expression	Use	Example
Pudera! Translation: It’s obvious!	to describe that something was already expected	Ele conseguiu o emprego? Pudera! Era o candidato mais preparado. Translation: Did he get the job? It’s obvious! He was the most prepared candidate.
Quem me dera! Translation: I wish!	to describe wishes	Quem me dera fizesse sol no fim de semana! Translation: I wish it was sunny on the weekend!
Quisera... Translation: I wish...	to describe wishes	Quisera a vida fosse mais simples! Translation: I wish life were simpler!
Tomara... Translation: I hope...	to describe wishes	Tomara que ele ganhe o campeonato! Translation: I hope he wins the championship!
