What's in each course

Course depth varies a lot between languages, and a scope-and-sequence conversation goes better with the real numbers in front of you. Here's what each course contains, what comes with it, and how to read the figures.

Courses outside the five-unit set, grouped by the shape they share. Every course in a group runs the same number of units and chapters, so the lesson count is the only figure that moves.

Two-unit courses

2 units · 20 chapters · 189–200 lessons

Every course in this group is a premium course.

Single-unit courses

1 unit · 1–10 chapters · 6–141 lessons

Every course in this group is a premium course except Javanese.

Assessments and placement also come with Hindi, Korean, Latin, Potawatomi, and Vietnamese. Extra listening and reading activities also come with Potawatomi. Every five-unit course above carries both.

What comes with a course

Three things on the chart aren't course content. They're what comes with it, and each one is granted differently: one by course, one by language, and one by the tier you buy.

Assessment and placement

On 14 languages, including all nine full courses.

  • A placement test, so a student starts at the right level.

  • A pre-test and a post-test at each unit.

  • A pre-quiz and a post-quiz at each chapter.

  • A course assessment at the end.

Premium courses

37 languages carry the premium build.

  • Additional work from Mango's linguists and native-speaker teams.

  • More culture notes, and more grammar notes.

English learners

English courses, taught in the learner's own language

Each course teaches English from a specific first language, so a newcomer starts from something familiar instead of starting from English. Lengths run from 9 lessons to 462, and that spread tracks how many learners arrive speaking each language rather than how much English there is to teach.

Courses by first language

One course per language, taught entirely in it

Alongside the general courses there are professional variants, Business English for Chinese (Mandarin) speakers, Business English for Spanish (Latin American) speakers, and Job Seeking in English for Spanish (Latin American) speakers, layered on top for workplace and job-seeking vocabulary.
