Study Resource: Present perfect subjunctive after conjunctions in Brazilian Portuguese

The following conjunctions are commonly followed by the present perfect subjunctive in Brazilian Portuguese. Check out these examples!


Type	Conjunction	Example
Concession	ainda que Translation: even if/even though	Ainda que eu tenha gostado da aula, não poderei participar do curso. Translation: Even though I enjoyed the class, I won’t be able to participate in the course.
	embora Translation: although	Embora tenham perguntado, acho que eles ainda não entenderam a tarefa. Translation: Although they asked, I think they still don’t understand the task.
	mesmo que Translation: even though	Mesmo que você tenha consertado o carro, é melhor não dirigi-lo na estrada. Translation: Even if you repaired the car, it is better not to drive it on the road.
Condition	caso Translation: in case	Caso você ainda não tenha feito a lição, poderá entregá-la mais tarde. Translation: If you haven’t already done the lesson, you can hand it in later.
	a não ser que Translation: unless	Você pode sair, a não ser que ainda não tenha terminado as tarefas. Translation: You can leave unless you haven’t finished the tasks yet.
	desde que Translation: as long as	Vamos viajar novamente, desde que ele tenha conseguido um desconto. Translation: We will travel again as long as he got a discount.
Purpose	a fim de que Translation: in order to	( ❌)
Purpose	para que Translation: in order to / to	( ❌)
Time	antes que Translation: before	Não viajaremos antes que ele tenha terminado o ano letivo. Translation: We will not travel before he has finished the school year.
Time	até que Translation: until	Não saia de casa até que a greve de ônibus tenha encerrado. Translation: Don’t leave the house until the bus strike is over.
