Activities: “Reported speech: How to say what someone said in Brazilian Portuguese?”

Activity 1: Make it indirect speech

Report the following direct quotes using indirect speech. Remember to adapt not only the verb tenses, but also pronouns, demonstratives, etc., and that more than one answer is possible.

  1. Carlos: “Eu trabalho na área da saúde. Eu adoro a empresa e os meus colegas.”

    Use the reporting verb: comentar

Activity 2: Report a conversation

Read the dialogue below and then report what everyone said using indirect speech.

1. Flávia:
Ontem fui ao cinema e assisti a um filme incrível!
2. João:
Verdade? Qual filme você viu?
3. Flávia:
Vi “Central do Brasil”. É um filme brasileiro muito emocionante!
4. João:
Legal! Quem são os atores principais?
5. Flávia:
Os atores principais são Fernanda Montenegro e Vinícius de Oliveira.
6. João:
Eu já ouvi falar deles. E como foi o final do filme?
7. Flávia:
Ah, o final foi muito bonito! Não posso contar para não estragar a surpresa.
8. João:
Fiquei curioso agora. Acho que vou assistir ao filme também.
