Activity 1: Spot the negative clauses

Read the text below about the Easter tradition in Brazil. Then select all of the negative clauses.

Activity 2: Translate the negative sentences

Translate the sentences below into Brazilian Portuguese, using the appropriate negation phrases.
  1. Carlos will never visit that museum again.

  2. We couldn’t do anything yesterday because of the rain.

  3. Marcelo didn’t come to the party nor did he call.

  4. I couldn't even identify his voice on the phone.

  5. The neighbor didn't hear any noise.

  6. Nothing was broken during the storm.

Activity 3: Ana and Maurício

Read the short dialogue below between Ana and Maurício. Imagine that you are Ana. Rewrite her negative statements in a way that emphasizes the negation. (Hint: Remember to use triple negation for that!)
  • Ana: Oi, Maurício. O que você está fazendo?

  • Maurício: Estou procurando o meu celular. Você o viu?

  • Ana: Não vi.

  • Maurício: Esquisito. Eu o deixei aqui na mesa ontem à noite. Será que as crianças o pegaram para brincar?

  • Ana: Não acho que o pegaram.
