Mango Labs

Run your study on Mango

Language-learning technology is under-researched relative to how many people use it. If you're an academic researcher with a question we could help answer, we'd like to hear from you, at any career stage, and in any context or population.

Support

What you get from working with us

Free platform access

Free licenses for you and for every participant, for the whole duration of the study. There's no cost to run research on Mango.

Study design

Pressure-test your design before you commit to it: sample, instruments, and what the platform can and can't measure.

IRB and grant support

Documentation your review board needs about the platform and its data, plus supporting material and letters for funding applications.

Data, storage and analysis

Secure storage for your study data, de-identified usage data as the study runs, and a second pair of eyes on the analysis. Institutional and K-12 student data is out of scope.

Mentorship

Standing time with our applied linguists and learning scientists, useful if you're early in your career or new to platform-based research.

Dissertation Awards

A separate program for doctoral candidates who are ABD, running on an annual cycle.

Track record

This isn't a new arrangement

Mango's own efficacy evidence comes from a study we commissioned but did not run: Vesselinov and Grego's 2019 report was conducted independently at Queens College, City University of New York and the University of South Carolina. 2 more peer-reviewed papers in the library came out of working with us, one co-authored with a Mango team member, one by a past dissertation-award recipient. That is what a collaboration here can end up as.

Separately, our Dissertation Awards have funded 10 doctoral researchers since 2021, a distinct program with its own annual cycle, open to candidates who are ABD. If you want to see the shape of work we support before you write to us, the research library lists all of it with the authorship marked.

Getting started

Get in touch

Tell us what you want to investigate and what you'd need. The form takes a few minutes, and you'll get an honest answer about whether this is a fit and what it would involve.

The form is hosted on Typeform. See our privacy policy for how we handle what you send.

Prefer email, or have a question before you fill anything in? Write to research@mangolanguages.com.

One thing worth saying plainly: work we support or co-author is not independent research, and we label it that way. Our research library marks who wrote each paper and whether Mango was involved.
