How did you hear about Mango Languages? I was looking for a job as an executive assistant on some websites and I found an open position at Mango Languages. I got really interested to learn more about the company because I love languages. I thought it would be great working in a business that is also my hobby. So, I started to research the company on the internet.

What is your official title and job description here at Mango? I am an Executive Assistant, and I am responsible for organizing the calendar for the four owners, setting appointments, scheduling meetings, filtering phone calls and e-mails, updating contacts, setting up trips, and doing any other tasks that might help their business.

Where did you study/work before coming to Mango? I studied at Universidade Estadual de Maringá in Brazil and I got an Executive Secretary bachelor degree. Since my first year at the University I have been working as an assistant. I first worked as a trainee in a non-profit company called Conselho Comunitário de Segurança de Maringá in Brazil where I was the board of director’s assistant. Then I worked as a second assistant for the president and vice-president at Cocamar, in Maringá-Brazil.  I have also worked as an assistant for three directors and indirect assistant of nineteen operational managers at GRSA, São Paulo-Brazil,.

Do you speak another language(s)? If so, which one(s)? I speak Brazilian Portuguese and I can read Spanish.

Any international travel stories? My International travel story is in America, since I am from Brazil.

After I graduated at University I came to Michigan to improve my English. I had lived with an American family while I was studying and learning about the culture. I met great new friends from Brazil, with whom I still keep in touch. We traveled a lot inside the country, and we had the opportunity to get to know a lot of places such as: Chicago, New York, Washington DC, South Carolina, Florida, California, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.

My idea was to come to America, improve my English, go back to Brazil, and start my career over there. However, I met my husband here and decided to stay. Now my career will be here at Mango Languages, and I am very happy about all these amazing people at Mango.

What do you love most about working at Mango? The diverse environment. I can walk around and hear people talking in Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, Russian, and other languages. Around my desk I have a Colombian and an American co-worker.  We always joke that we need to have a visa to “cross the border” and go to each other’s desks.

Besides that, everybody here has a connection or an experience with foreign languages.

What core value describes you best? Fundipline (Fun+Discipline). We spend most of our day in the office. I think it’s good and healthy to work in a fun environment but with discipline to not become a mess.

Thank you so much for sharing a little bit about yourself!

Welcome to the Mango Team, Josiane!
