Mango Monday: Do you speak Texan?

Do you speak Texan?
Mangoes traded the snowy Michigan weather for some southern hospitality (and sunshine) while attending ALA Midwinter 2012 in Dallas, Texas!

While we got a little taste of the south, we gave a taste of mango smoothies to stoppers-by at the Mango booth. Attendees could also check out demonstrations of the Mango iPhone app, Little Pim and learn some Hindi!

While we were sporting tie-dye and mango smoothie sugar-buzzes, we saw many wonderful familiar faces, made great new friends and heard inspiring language learning success stories.

We even got a short lesson in “Southern English” from a few true Texans, y’all!

Check out some pictures from our adventure and let us know: did you drop by the Mango Languages booth at ALA Midwinter in Dallas this year? Do you still remember how to say, “where is the bus station” in Hindi?

Travel Tuesday: Mango Goes Big, Y’all!

Needless to say, we are quite looking forward to getting to Dallas, Texas this week for the American Library Association 2012 Midwinter Conference!

The office is going to seem pretty empty, as 14 Mangoes will be heading southwest to participate in the bi-annual conference. From Mango smoothies to giveaways to demonstrations to typical Mango insanity, our booth will be bustling. Be sure to stop by Booth #2253 and say “howdy” to our staff! We are looking forward to another exciting show.

Is anyone attending the show? Is this your first time at ALA Midwinter? What conferences/exhibitors are you most looking forward to seeing?

Mango goes to DC

First stop was Gallaudet University where we stayed. What a cool college…it is the world leader in liberal education and career development for deaf and hard of hearing students. They had a fantastic little shuttle that took us all over the city.

296767 10150346057068455 622638454 10035625 3981310 n 200x150 Mango goes to DCSecond stop was dinner at Jaleao…and bonus it was resturant week…. OMG! We had a five course Spanish Tapas meal for a steal! We met some Mango friends and enjoyed wonderful conversation and the ambiance of a national landmark in Chinatown.

Third stop was to be complete tourists and enjoy the city by moonlight. We had both been to DC several times but never have enjoyed the monuments all a glow. We were both in awe of how grand and majestic the city was at night.

Fourth Stop was in the morning of the next day – we had to get some more delicious food. And stumbled upon the cutest little French cafe which transported us to Paris with its Cafe au Lait and Pan au Chocolate (chocolate filled croissant) and enchanting French music.

After we filled our tummies we headed over to the Library of Congress. Now if you are a Librarian this is the mothership of all libraries. I felt smarter just walking in. Jane gave a great panel presentation from a former medical librarian’s perspective and how she came to work for Mango…FYI she now wears a Hawaiian lei and tie dye t-shirt to work! After her awesome speech we had other meetings at the Library of Congress and got to walk in the underground tunnels between buildings and see the reading room on the 5th floor. The business library…it was so cool. It has an art deco influence and had the coolest carvings of owls.

Our last stop for the day was at the National Geographic Society. This was really cool! I am a travel addict and this was travelers dream. Books upon books on languages, places and maps of all around the world. I totally geeked out! They even had an exhibit on Machu Picchu which I hiked back in 2007. It is a beautiful place with amazing building skills. On top of all of that, we got to go to the Explorers Hall. Where the explorers used go to report on their exhibitions. All we could think about was the travels and stories that were shared in that room. Soooo amazing! People like Charles Lindbergh, Amelia Earhart, Jane Goodall and so many more. WOW!

Our last visit was to Rand Corporation where we met two great librarians and chatted about world peace! Lots of great things happening there!

Overall, we had a great time, met some great people and have great memories. What is your favorite thing to do in DC?

Vote to Save Libraries

save libraries 200x200 Vote to Save LibrariesThis week, the House of Representatives will consider an amendment to the FY2011 Continuing Resolution that is critical to libraries – one that would eliminate all Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)
funding including Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funding.

Amendment #35, submitted by U.S. Rep. Scott Garret (R-NJ), seeks to zero out the Institute of Museum and Library Services, eliminating all federal
funding specifically for libraries.

Together, we can make a difference. Contact your representative and oppose Amendment #35. Go to http://www.house.gov/ and enter your zip code to find out who your representative is and how to contact them. Call or email him or her to oppose Amendment #35 to the Continuing Resolution!

Here is an email template to send to your representative:

Subject:  Oppose Amendment #35 to the Continuing Resolution

Message: Libraries are essential to every community, and federal funding is
critical for ensuring library resources and services remain available.

This is an important vote and I appreciate your Opposing Amendment 35 to the Continuing Resolution submitted by U.S. Rep. Scott Garret (R-NJ)

Posters…T-Shirts…Coffee Mugs, Oh My!

IMG 19301 300x200 Posters...T Shirts...Coffee Mugs, Oh My!

Steve Perakis, Director of Product Development sporting his Mango Gear

Back in April, Mango Languages announced a new promotion system for Public Libraries.  I spent several months visiting libraries, talking on the phone with our partners and asking lots of questions to see what they thought would be the best way to get the word out about the library and the Mango Languages Online Learning Software.  Their feedback helped create this new promotional system.

Here at Mango, we believe that it is our responsibility as the vendor, to help make your job as easy as possible while generating much excitement for the library.  Marketing is a key function to do this.  That is why we wanted to create something fun, easy, and successful.

We sent out bright orange envelopes, emails, and talked about it in our newsletter.  However, many of our library partners haven’t taken full advantage the system.   We want you to get all the goodies you can earn just by marketing your library and the Mango Languages resource to your patrons.

A few things you should know:

1. Make sure you have access to the Mango Languages Administration Portal–www.libraries.mangolanguages.com–or what we call the MAP. (If you need access, contact your library administrator or your Mango language learning rep to help get you set up.  It only takes a minute.)

2. Check out the Training Videos on the Dashboard.  One is all about the MAP and the other is a Staff Training on Mango Languages.  Also, we are coming out with a Patron video later this summer that you can easily share on your website and at in-person events.

3. Check out the Promote Tab.  There are tons of fun things here.  First, look at the free downloads section. Here you will find logos, descriptions, a Mango Brand guide, sample blog posts, tweets, and newsletter articles.  There are tons of templates, so all you need to do is make a couple of customizations with your specific library info.

4. Earn points! You can do this a couple of ways. First, just for being a customer you get points.  We even give you extra points to reward our loyal customers for renewing.  Second, check off as many items as you can on the Marketing Checklist.  You can earn points for doing things like placing the Mango Logo and a description on your website, blogging about Mango, sending press releases to your local newspapers, radio and TV folks.  Publish an article and earn more points.  Doing something above and beyond like a billboard or a video on youtube and earn lots of points.  The more creative the better!

5. Spend your points in the Mango Store. Use them for things like T-shirts for staff to wear for a Mango Monday event, for mouse pads for your computer lab, or bookmarks for patrons.  You can even use your points for things like Mango Mugs and Umbrellas that you can use as special prizes for your patrons.  Please check out the pictures of the gear – our staff had fun modeling all the goodies.

We want you to have fun with this new promotional system.  We know Mango Languages is something that your community will talk about and many of our library partners who have used this new promotion system have increased library card holders and their user stats by up to 1000%.

Don’t wait any longer…start getting your Mango gear today!

Have you used the system?  Please comment and let us know what you think!!!!

Check out the numerous responses they received. The staff here at Mango was so excited to see such fantastic feedback!
