Mango iPhone App Coming Soon!
The possibilities to learn a foreign language are now endless. Always on the run? With the launch of our iPhone application scheduled to be released by the end of 2010, learning a language on the go is easier than ever. Think of all of the things that you are now able to do because of your iPhone and iPad, such as reading books, getting news, checking emails, and watching videos. Now you can add learning a foreign language to that list!
Mango Mobile is a Mango Languages application for the iPhone®, iPod touch®, and iPad™. By downloading the application for free from the iTunes® store, library patrons will be able to access Mango courses just about anywhere!
How does it work? The lessons themselves work just like the online Mango lessons! The presentation, functionality, and course organization is very similar. Users simply touch the screen to reveal answers, hear pronunciations, and interact with the lesson format. Mango Mobile will be available to library patrons who have an iPhone.
What language will you learn from your iPhone?

I am excited as well! Any more specific time-frame for the release? I know that it was originally scheduled for the 3rd quarter, then the start of the 4th quarter, now, the “end of 2010.” I am in the process of learning German and would like to use this as a tool, but I will have to look for something else if it is not released soon.

Hi Patrick -
Thank you for your note. We have had to delay the launch of this application. We didn’t want to launch an application that was just a taste of Mango online. We are creating an application that actually has more functionality than our online program and it is taking us a bit longer than we originally planned. This is the first time we have created something like this. Please forgive us for the delay. We are looking at the June/July time frame for launch now.
In the meantime, we did launch our MP3 On The Go! program, which you can use on an iPod, iPhone or any MP3 audio device. It is great for taking with you to the gym or in the car. Please visit http://www.mangolanguages.com and choose which language you are interested in and then the On The Go! program.

I’m so excited for the iPad app. I’m glad you’re taking the time to do it right instead of rushing it out the door. (Off topic, I’m would also love to see ESL for Thai speakers)

Will the app work on an older iPod Touch (generation 2, iOS 4, 8 gb)? By “older”, it’s less than a year old, but the technology has of course greatly outstripped it! I hope Mango will keep us users of older devices in mind with your new app, and not just write it to work on only the newest iPads and iPods.

You guys should take down the instances on your website that say the app will be released in 2010. I waited last year through two set backs and have become more and more disappointed every week. I have been checking for the app and then I looked on this blog and see that the release date has been moved back yet again. You guys shouldn’t get customers hyped up about something that you were so unprepared to release. But kudos to you guys for the post about Noam Chomsky.

Anxiously awaiting the release of the Mango iPhone app! Mango is such a fun program I can’t wait to have it with me all the time, not to mention on my childrens’ iPod Touch. Keep up the good work. It’s best to have most of the kinks worked out before the launch to avoid initial bad publicity that might scare people off. Shame on folks for being less than understanding of the development hurdles of such a complicated FREE app.

Hello Tricia,
Thank you for your comment! We will be launching the iPhone app this summer! We are so excited, we’ve been working hard to make this one of the coolest applications out there with all the fun and great features that Mango courses already offers. Thank you for your patience and understanding! Can’t wait to hear how you like the final product!
Have a great week!
